about

A collection of pieces using Ciat-Lonbarde instruments, this work was recorded over several weeks during August 2020 in the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. This album was conceived as an exploration of this limited instrumental palette. As the pandemic quickly spread across the globe, I found it initially difficult to muster motivation to continue creating while at home for the foreseeable future, taking things one day at a time, but after the first few months settling into this new routine of increased online interaction (as well as a very welcome increase in phone conversations with friends) the inception of this project became a source of rediscovered creative energy, an initial step in continued music/art-making during those circumstances.

Most of my performing on these Ciat-Lonbarde instruments has been in a live, improvised context. One take, so-to-speak. The pieces on this album took on a very different approach of overdubbing tracks with each individual voice of the instruments, yielding music that wouldn't have been created in a live situation. While live concerts were not a responsible possibility for the time being, this was been a way to embrace that state of life rather than simply mourn for that which was lost. I hope this music finds you safe & well.
